Bukidnon Provincial Health System

Effective governance according to the Provincial Governor is not only to provide for the basic needs of the province`s constituents but also to ensure that health care services are available, affordable, efficient and more importantly, accessible to those who need it.

Innovative approaches to achieve these goals are put into effect such as, the putting up of Provincial Health Stations, the construction of three major referral hospitals and massive registration of identified indigents.

The PHS is a health facility constructed to deliver the Outpatient Benefit and Diagnostic Package of PhilHealth and other health care services to the Provincial Indigency Health Program (PIHP) enrollees and their dependents. These health facilities are currently operating as extensions of the Outpatient Department of the Bukidnon Provincial hospitals as accredited by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

These health facilities started to operate in the second quarter of 2003. A doctor, a nurse, a medical technologist, an ambulance driver and one Provincial Indigency Health Program (PIHP) Coordinator comprise the staff of each PHS.

The Provincial Health Station provides medical consultation to a wide range of common diseases from pediatric, internal medicine, general surgery to obstetric cases. It also provides laboratory diagnostic services such as complete blood count (CBC), urinalysis, stool examination, and sputum microscopy.

Cases brought to the PHS requiring services other than those available in the health facility such as X-ray services are referred to accredited provincial hospital or to Rural Health Unit/Health Center nearest to the Provincial Health Station.

Part of the capitation fund amounting to Php300 per enrolled family that is paid to the Provincial Government of Bukidnon is spent for the operation of these health facilities aside from the purchase of drugs, medicines, equipment, and laboratory supplies
