Pope Benedict the XVI extends his presence by sending the Papal Nuncio for the Philippines Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams to the Province of Bukidnon. The Papal Nuncio’s three day visit in Bukidnon started November 16, 2009 where he received a Liturgical-Civic Reception at Malaybalay City Cathedral.

The pope is the visible foundation of unity of Catholic faith throughout the world. It is through the Papal Nuncio that the Pope becomes aware of the needs of the people and his voice be heard. Pope Benedict XVI wanted to show his great love and care for the Diocese of Malaybalay that he sends Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams to Bukidnon.

Malaybalay Diocese Bishop Honesto Ch. Pacana, SJ DD shared in his message that the Papal Nuncio’s visit reminds us of our catholicity and our connection to the Universal Church. We are with ONE FAITH, ONE GOD, and ONE BAPTISM.

Bukidnon people from all ages welcomed the Nuncio with great faith, respect and hospitality. Malaybalay City Mayor turned over a symbolic key to the Nuncio representing the capital city’s warm reception. Archbishop Adams also accepted a symbolic key of love and peace from the provincial government of Bukidnon given by Governor Jose Maria R. Zubiri, Jr.

The most awaited and significant Apostolic Blessing was given to the populace by the Nuncio together with Bishop Pacana just before the Liturgical-Civic Reception ended. In Christian faith, whoever receives the apostolic blessing will be cleansed from temporal punishment.

Archbishop Adam’s homily during a Eucharistic celebration held at Malaybalay City Cathedral, acknowledged the 40th year anniversary of the Diocese of Malaybalay. He inspired and encouraged the people with their faith, to know, love and like it. He mentioned that it is faith that leads people to believe in God. He also reminded the people of God’s commitment to justice. “God takes His time but He is sure and just.”

The pastoral visit continued the following day with the papal nuncio going down south of Bukidnon where he also extended his apostolic blessing to most of the people in the province.

Archbishop Adam’s pastoral visit to the province of Bukidnon is a great blessing not only to the local Church but to the entire province of Bukidnon. Governor Zubiri in his short welcome of the Nuncio stated that it is one occasion where we are encouraged to pray, listen, share and be inspired of our religious faith.
