Malaybalay City (September 17, 2013) - The Province of Bukidnon will be celebrating its 100th Founding Anniversary on September 1, 2014.

It is worth to note that Bukidnon became part of Misamis Province as a municipality in 1850. The whole area was then called Malaybalay meaning "few houses" and the people are known as Bukidnons meaning "mountain people."

The Philippine Commission proposed separation of Bukidnon from Misamis Province. In August 20, 1907, Philippine Commission Act 1963 was enacted which created the province of Agusan with Bukidnon as a sub-province. On September 1, 1914, Bukidnon became a regular province by virtue of the creation of the Department of Mindanao and Sulu pursuant to Act 2408, otherwise known as "An Act Providing for a Temporary Form of Government for the Territory known as the Department of Mindanao and Sulu".

This Act was affirmed and adopted by the Province by virtue of Provincial Ordinance No. 2012-058R (11th SP).

In line with the Centennial celebration, the Provincial Government of Bukidnon is now engaged in the preparations for the celebration of its Centennial Year. Provincial Governor Jose Ma. R. Zubiri, Jr., announced that the Province is coming up with line of activities for a successful and great celebration as the event is a once in a lifetime experience not only for the people of Bukidnon but to all who love our province.

To ensure the smooth flow of success of the centennial celebration, the governor has issued Executive Order No. 10, Series of 2013 creating the Bukidnon Centennial Celebration 2014 Committee chaired by no less than the governor himself.

The members of the committee were renowned provincial historians, State Universities in the province, religious and cultural leaders, representative of the league of mayors, Department of Tourism and representative from business sectors.

The Centennial Celebration covers the whole month of August 2014 as Kaamulan month long celebration and to culminate on September 1, 2014.

To ensure a more festive celebration, a prestigious event coordinator will be hired for the activities on September 1, 2014 to include the Grand Kaamulan Street Dancing Parade, Beauty Pageant, concert at Capitol Ground and Fire Works Display.

The Bukidnon Centennial Celebration 2014 Committee had their first meeting on September 16, 2013 at Pine Hills Hotel, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
